November Club Minutes 2010
Minutes of the Meeting of the Bradford Flower Club held on Monday 15th November 2010 at Haworth Road Methodist Church:
A warm welcome was given to all members and the many visitors who were attending the Guest Evening. Our Chairman stated that it was a special evening in that not only had Bradford Flower Club made it onto the front page of the North East Area News but it gives her great pleasure to welcome the Lady Mayoress Mrs Gillian Hill, Norma Dobney NAFAS National Chairman as well as a long standing member of Bradford Flower Club and Sue Maddocks North East Area Chairman.
As there was a very full agenda tonight the Chairman proposed that she would lead straight into welcoming Andrew Grisewood, with the first four of his demonstrations ably assisted by Oliver and Mike. Then Andrew would take a short break for a change of costume whilst the Chair would take the opportunity to read the notices along with an additional wonderful agenda item. Then it would be back to Andrew for three further arrangements followed by teas and coffee.
The usual H&S notices were given regarding fire and first aid along with a polite reminder about mobile phones being switched off. Andrew Grisewood was then introduced with his title Festive Magic.
After four demonstrations the Chairman congratulated Andrew on his arrangements and gave the following notices:
The minutes of our October meeting were on the Notice board and would be signed if everyone was in agreement.

Our finger fuddle would once again follow our December meeting. Members were asked to bring a small plate with nibbles, either an assortment or all the same, and that would be plenty for all to have a little something with our cup of tea or coffee. A balanced mixture of savoury and sweets would be most welcome.
Members were reminded to wear something Christmassy. A prize would be given to the best dressed as judged by our demonstrator.
Our quick look back on Club Happenings took us to March 19th 1990. Twenty Years ago. The club had its last meeting in the Library Theatre. There was to be a Flower Festival at the Wool Exchange and the Lady Mayoress held her Spring Market on the 22nd March where we had a stall.
Muriel Spencer Wilcock and Joyce Longthorn had been arranging flowers in Westminster Abbey for the Commonwealth Observance Day Service and there was more for Muriel as she was presented with a scroll and bouquet as she was made an Honorary Member of the Club.
As it was some 20 years since the Club had made anyone an Honorary Member, it gave Yvonne a very great pleasure to say that Norma has accepted our invitation to also become an honorary member of Bradford Flower Club.
Norma first joined the Committee of Bradford Flower Club in 1989 taking up various roles before becoming Vice Chairman in 1993 and then Chairman in 1995.She then moved onto bigger and better roles as she took on the position of 2nd Vice Chair at Area. Again she worked her way through the various roles culminating in taking on the National Chairman at the last AGM. Norma was presented with a certificate and flowers.
Norma then gave a few very kind and encouraging words to the club membership.
Since the last Club meeting three workshops had been held. One was for Club Members on the 23rd October at Haworth Road Methodist Church. The other two were for the Community. The first was at Bankfoot on the 29th October and the second at Bolton Villas on the 13th November. All had been thoroughly enjoyed by those attending. As a result of these workshops £200 had been raised for Wheatfield’s Hospice and £25 for Action for Children.

Andrew was then welcomed back to the stage for his final three arrangements.
The Vote of thanks was given by Sue Maddocks.
Everyone was thanked for attending and reminded that our next meeting would be on the 13th December when our demonstrator would be Jan Faulkner with her title Christmas Sparkle.
Members were once again reminded about their nibbles and Christmas gear. They were wished a Goodnight and a safe journey home.
