April Meeting 2015

‘A Man for all Seasons’ a flower demonstration by Lesley Devalle
Monday 20th April at 7.30pm with refreshments following the demonstration
Haworth Road Methodist Church

P1020460Chair welcomed our demonstrator for the evening – Lesley Devalle with her title ‘Man for All Seasons’. Lesley’s demonstration was very inspiring and entertaining with amusing anecdotes and her husband Stuart added to the fun with his interjections. Lesley gave us six displays using creative containers and pots, most of which were large.

  • Her first arrangement was on a 3ft high pot with a rough and smooth texture. Her greenery included small leaf Eucalyuptus complimented with flowing white carnations down one side and white lisianthus. Carnation stalks were pushed through at the other side to give an illusion that the flowers went through the container.
  • The second circular container was constructed from silver birch; four large sticks were placed at intervals with red Alstremeria at different heights, red tulips grouped in clusters, beautiful red Sorbonne Roses, Sol d’or daffodils in groups and orange germinis.
  • Lesley’s ‘Ramsbottom Pot’ was the centrepiece for the third display. Very tall orange Asiatic lilies were placed upright in the centre of the pot, dramatic birds of paradise were placed under these with strelitsia beneath. Palm and Fatsia were used as infill with more lilies and orange gerbera around the base.
  • Lesley next made a hand tied bouquet with two large white lily stems, palm, curled aspidistra leaves and large monster leaves. These were tied and placed in a silver cone vase. Stuart delighted us by providing two more bouquets to make an attractive display.
  • A very tall piece of sculptured wood was used as the background for the next display with a cornucopia basket attached. Leatherleaf fern was used to cover the oasis and red carnations placed to flow down one side with Grand Prix red roses to complement down the other side. Red anthuriums were the final placement and a smaller cornucopia provided by Stuart to make a stunning display.
  • For her last arrangement, Lesley used a large stone urn with soft ruscus draped down the sides and front. Tall pink lilies were used in the centre with delphiniums coming down through the line and pink carnations following with pink gerbera. The display was finished with Avalanche pink roses.
