MINUTES OF THE CLUB MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 14th DECEMBER 2015 AT HAWORTH ROAD METHODIST CHURCH
1 In Attendance: there were 72 members and 4 guests in attendance.
2 Chair welcomed everyone to the meeting and anticipated it would be fun packed and hoped everyone would join in the fuddle after the meeting.
3 Correspondence and Notices –
· Chair reported on the workshop held on Saturday 28 November which was very well attended with old and new members. Thanks were given to Pat Trueman for the wonderful ideas for Christmas. Everyone went home with two beautiful displays. The feedback from attendees was that Pat had done a great demonstration and especially for explaining how to create and improve our designs.
· Table Top Sale – The Methodist Church is holding a table top sale on 30 January between 10am and 12 noon. The Flower Club will be having a table and chair asked for volunteers to help on the table as she will be at Area meeting. Chair also asked for donations of any unwanted items to sell – to bring them to the January meeting.
· Christmas Card Table – Chair asked members to make sure the full name of the recipient is on all cards as we have been left with cards in the past when a single Christian name is on the card.
4 Demonstrators – Chair welcomed the demonstrators for the evening – our own Marie Harris and Muriel Spencer Wilcock with their title ‘It’s that Time of Year Again’. The stage had been prepared with a Christmas hanging and two triangular Christmas trees made from branches.
A Muriel introduced the demonstration with a ‘panto’ theme and her first contribution was ‘Puss in Boots’. A small square pot was used with upright willow twigs and into this Muriel placed red dragon stems in an upright position in between the branches. Flowers used were a pale gerbera, red chrysanthemums, and a final touch of a twisty rope made of jigsaw pieces. Fatsia leaves were placed around the base. The arrangement was finally placed next to ‘Jack and his cat’ and Marie brought another arrangement to complement Muriel’s.
B Marie demonstrated next with her ‘Cinderella’ theme. An open bamboo cage in the shape of a coach was used with oasis and greenery (eucalyptus, conifer) in the centre and on the top. White carnations were brought out horizontally from the top with crème de la crème roses, pale gerbera and two beautiful white orchids were the final touch, creating a magical interpretation of Cinderella’s coach. A glass slipper finished the display.
C Alladdin was the next theme which Muriel arranged in a bronze bowl with greenery coming out from the sides and white cala lilies placed upright in the container with two curled around the bottom. Pale gerbera and cream roses were used and green button chrysanthemums for infill. Marie produced a second arrangement and the two were placed on a table decorated with golden towers, cushions and a lamp.
D Marie’s last display was created using a large upright bleached piece of wood with mechanics on the top (fatsias, fern, viburnum with white flower heads and broom. This was to represent ‘The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg’. Purple Liatris, Captain Nemo (purple) Cala Lilies, and a lovely red rose (freedom). Silver baubles were added and a bowl of golden eggs. Muriel placed a second arrangement to compliment the first.
The demonstrators then lit up the stage with fairy lights to create a magical Christmas staging. Margaret Holmes gave the vote of thanks.

F The meeting closed at 9.05 and members were invited to share in the lovely spread of food. Chair announced the next meeting will be held on 18 January 2016 when Tony Cleaver and Peter Mathers will give their talk entitled ‘A Taste of Summer’. Volunteers were asked to help clear the stage and also the party room after the fuddle and also encouraged to take food home as there is usually food left over at the end of the meeting.
Chair wished everyone a Happy Christmas and a healthy new year and a safe journey home.
